Gail Woods, Polymer Clay Artist
Welcome to my website!
I am a juried member of Spanish Village Art
Center in Balboa Park, San Diego California. I
have had the wonderful opportunity of being
an artist in Studio 30 since February 2006. You
couldn't ask for a better work environment
with a more fun or inspirational location.
About 15 years ago my sisters and I decided to
make our Christmas gifts for each other. I took
a beading class at the Shepherdess in Old
Town and I was hooked. Beads...I couldn't get
enough of them. Imagine my happiness when I
discovered Polymer Clay and realized that I
could now create my own beads in any shape,
color, or style that I wanted! You can only
make so many things for your friends and
family. Soon I was selling at craft shows and
getting special orders.

Polymer Clay is my medium of choice, always evolving and
never boring. I am fascinated by the sense of order, color,
fun, and the challenge of trying to create things that have
never been done before. After taking a class with the
talented Laurie Mika I have found another area of Polymer
Clay to explore. The art of making polymer clay tiles. I am
excited to create something that is me, a collaged version
that includes many themes that are important to me...the
mountains and oceans, gardening, the care of the
environment, relationships, and cats, to name a few. To
create the tiles and make them fit together and have a
message is both the challenge and the fun.
My ideas of "creating art" have taken many forms over
the years. Some have been entrepreneurial...I did my
first business cards when I was 12 years old and passed
them around the neighborhood. I have been working
ever since. I tried to find a creative side to everything I
have done. Some of my self employment endeavors
included starting a business selling floral bouquets on
street corners and moving into doing flowers for formal
weddings; running the best auto repair shop in San
Diego with my husband Jon (Jon Woods Automotive)
voted so by San Diego Magazine; bookkeeping
businesses; and in corporate world managing people
and computers, creating business information systems,
and writing manuals.

Currently the studio and a few bookkeeping
clients keep me busy enough. I am also involved
with the San Diego Polymer Clay Guild, presently
the treasurer. I am blessed with a wonderful
husband of more than 20 years and 2 cats (Molly
& Freddy), friends, family and a full and happy
life.
